This IS ONE SUPERSTAR NAPA CAB made by a SUPERSTAR WINEMAKER you do NOT want to miss out on BEFORE IT GETS DISCOVERED and EXPENSIVE! We are BEYOND impressed with this new SHINING STAR...15 cases available in SA...

Unquestionably a rising superstar in California, Frenchman Benoit Touquette makes a bevy of wines from throughout Napa Valley, all of which show impeccable winemaking and balanced-hence the funny label-see PIC attached- layered profiles.

HINT, HINT: IF YOU LIKE FAUST CAB and QUINTESSA CAB MERITAGE, you WILL LOVE TEETER-TOTTER CAB!

Born in Lyon France and gaining his education from the University of Bordeaux, Benoit worked at numerous French wineries before getting a job (with the help of his friend and mentor Michel Rolland) in Napa Valley with Andy Erickson. He consulted for the likes of Screaming Eagle, Ovid and Arietta. Today, Benoit is the winemaker for Realm Cellars, Hartwell, and Kata, as well as numerous other labels, including his own project Fait-Main (which translates to "hand-made").

This report looks at his latest releases from Fait-Main, Teeter-Totter, Familiar Air, Jack Quinn, Hartwell and Kata.

2015 TEETER-TOTTER NAPA CAB $52.95/BTL.

Winemaker Notes

The 2015 vintage is powerful and well-balanced boasting with fresh aromatics. Pops of blackberry, raspberry, and vanilla grab you first followed by subtler notes of thyme, violet and lavender. The smaller percentages of Bordeaux varietals create a juicy palate filled with impeccably balanced tannins. The well-structures fruit laden finish keep you coming back for more.

Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, %5 Syrah, 5% Zinfandel, 5% Petite Sirah, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc

Made with the idea of an approachable, yet high-quality Napa Cabernet, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from winemaker Benoit Touquette delivers the goods. Possessing a big, sexy nose of ripe currants, cassis, scorched earth and licorice, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, impeccable balance, and a hedonistic, undeniably delicious style. It will keep for a decade

93/100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Something of a smorgasbord blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon with dollops of Merlot, Syrah, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon offers up loads of incense, spice box and dried flowers notions over a crème de cassis, cherry pie and fruitcake core. The medium to full-bodied palate is plush, rich and bursting with spicy black and red fruit flavors, going pleasantly savory on the finish.

Benoit Touquette :

I grew up in Lyon thinking I would become a fighter pilot or an engineer. I never considered wine until I was in Bordeaux working mobile bottling lines to pay for graduate school. The infectious passion of the winemakers I met, showing up day after day with the same fire in their eyes, blew me away. I switched my focus to oenology and completed two degrees, then left France to intern with Andy Erickson and explore uncharted possibilities in Napa Valley. I worked hard, learned from everyone, and pushed myself to deliver the kind of winemaking I believe in. I've never missed a picking day, and I'll spend as much time as it takes to get the wines right. I started Fait-Main because I fell in love with a vineyard… and then another, and another. Shauna saves me from myself.

something different/St Cosme Saint Joseph Rhone 2015/2 Cases in Austin/24 Bottles AND WE GOT THEM BOTH! Triple 93 ratings

This is the first region in GAULLE=FRANCE  where the Roman soldiers first brought and planted vines OVER 2000 years ago, back then the Gauls (= French tribes, basically barbarians back then) only drank what was called then cervoise=BEER! Cool/true historical trivia!

2015 Chateau de Saint Cosme St. Joseph Rouge (Pre-Arrival) $59/BTL...A MUST HAVE RARE BIRD! Only $59/btl.  17 bottles available NOW and that WILL BE IT!, ie one case and FIVE LOOSE bottles left....

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Another terrific Northern Rhône from Louis is the 2015 Saint Joseph, which comes all from granite terroirs and was aged in barrel. Plums, cassis, black raspberry and graphite characteristics emerge from this rich, full-bodied, impressively concentrated red that has present, yet sweet tannin. It will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and shine for a decade.   (12/2016)

91-93 points Vinous

Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of blackberry, violet and woodsmoke, plus a hint of cola that emerges with aeration. Sweet, densely packed and full-bodied, offering ripe cassis, blackberry, violet pastille and licorice flavors given lift and spine by juicy acidity. Spreads out and becomes spicier on the impressively long finish, which features chewy tannins and a sexy floral nuance. (JR)   (4/2017)

93 points Wine & Spirits

A dynamic St-Joseph from Louis Barruol, this wine is powered by the mouthwatering pucker of sour cherries and pomegranate and a deep growl of tannins. Light and dark, lush and strict, the components keep the wine in a constant, enticing state of tension, notes of underbrush, spice and herbs adding detail. Made from sérine, an old variant of syrah, with 30 percent whole clusters, this is a serious St-Joseph, to drink now or hold another decade.   (2/2018)

92 points James Suckling

Impressive spicy red and black berry fruits, with smoky and gently meaty nuances, too. This has a fluid, smoothly rendered palate that is saturated in flavor. Drink now.   (9/2017)

92 points Wine Spectator

Shows a bright savory note, along with pepper and green olive hints amid the core of gently steeped raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors. Keeps an herbaceous edge through the finish, along with lightly chalky tannins. A touch old-school and built on acidity. Put this in the cellar. Best from 2019 through 2030.  (11/2017)

"Shows a bright savory note, along with pepper and green olive hints amid the core of gently steeped raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors. Château de Saint Cosme is a leading estate of the Rhone and produces the benchmark wines of several appellations. The property has been in the hands of the Barruol family since 1570. Louis Barruol took over from his father in 1992 making a dramatic shift to quality and converting to biodynamics in 2010.

The estate lies in the heart of Gigondas where 15 hectares of vineyard grow in the shade of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain. In addition to the estate-grown wines labeled "Château de Saint Cosme," Louis Barruol buys grapes from contracted growers, labeling these "négociant" wines simply as "Saint Cosme."

Saint Cosme Saint-Joseph is produced from 100% Sérine, an ancient and local variety of Syrah that is markedly different from modern selections. It is more oval, with lots of space in the bunch, resulting in a very aromatic wine. It is sourced from the climat Malleval in the northern part of the appellation near Condrieu. The wine is made from 70% destemmed with 30% whole clusters, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged in 20% new 228-liter barrels.

Tasting Notes

Louis Barruol describes the microclimate of the vineyard Malleval as "very cold" which allows the grapes to retain acidity and showcase the floral aromas of the local Sérine variety. Aromas and flavors of blackberries and wild strawberries are accented by notes of peppercorns, tobacco, peonies, and violets.

Food Pairing---------------MEAT, MEAT and...MEAT, see pics below...

Syrah, with its very deep flavors and firm yet smooth tannins, is a natural match for grilled or smoked meat and dishes featuring herbs, roasted mushrooms, and onions. Seared venison or beef with black pepper and thyme or a Moroccan tagine of pigeon or chicken are complimented by the spicy characteristic of Syrah.  But...in South Texas, a good ol' brisket will do the trick with this FABULOUS RHONE RED!

Winemaker Notes

The 2015 offers something well above the norm – extraordinary density, mellowness, substantial length and a kind of reticence that bodes extremely well for future aromatics. Laden with fruit, youthfulness and organic components, it makes you wonder what the future holds. Peony, wild blueberry, liquorice and tobacco.

Blend: 100% Serine (an ancient form of Syrah).
